Natural hazards in Switzerland

01.08.2019 | swisstopo, FOEN

Natural phenomena, which have causes in the Earth’s interior or near the surface of the Earth, can result in natural disasters. Examples include earthquakes, landslides and floods.

Geodata portals of the cantons and the federal government provide visual access to the natural hazards data.

Recently there have been several rock slides and rock falls in the Alps. The glaciers are melting and hot, dry periods are becoming more frequent, resulting in a decrease in the stability of permafrost. Adjustment measures to climate change are thus becoming increasingly important.
